Adtec Healthcare agree licensing and cooperation rights for advanced Plasma Wound Care Technology

Adtec Healthcare has entered into a licensing and cooperation agreement with the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics and Terraplasma GmbH to exploit a new 6-electrode Plasma generation system.
The new 6-electrode system, jointly developed by Adtec and Professor Gregor Morfill’s Research team at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics allows generation of a more consistent cold plasma that is ideal for treatment of chronic and acute wounds.

Mary McGovern, Managing Director of Adtec Europe, who led the Adtec Medical Plasma Team, signing the licensing contract with (left) Professor Morfill, the founder and CEO of terraplasma GmbH, a spinout from the Max Planck Institute to commercialize plasma technology for medical applications and (right) Dr. Wolfgang Troeger, Senior Patent and License Manager, Max-Planck-Innovation GmbH

Until now, chronic wounds were treated with a variety of expensive dressings, high doses of
antibiotics and topical applications.
Mary McGovern, Managing Director of Adtec Europe stated “This important licensing and cooperation agreement is the culmination of a ten-year development effort to harness the potential of plasma for the benefit of patients. Adtec and the Max Planck Institute have sponsored extensive clinical trials and recorded over 3,500 patient treatments that show the efficacy of the Adtec SteriPlas System in reducing microbial contamination of wounds to promote faster wound healing”.
The Adtec SteriPlas Wound Management System will be the first product to incorporate the
new 6-electrode plasma technology, and is expected to launch in Q4, 2015.
