We’re proud to share the publication of a new peer-reviewed study highlighting the clinical potential of the SteriPlas Premium Cold Plasma in the management of LVAD-related infections — an area of significant unmet need in advanced cardiac care.
Congratulations to Dr Thomas Schlöglhofer and Dr Hebe Al Asadi for their outstanding work in bringing this important research to publication.
The study explores the use of the SteriPlas Premium Cold Plasma in patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), where infection—particularly driveline infection—remains one of the most challenging and impactful complications.
Key clinical insights from the publication include:
· Demonstrated reduction in LVAD driveline infections with the use of CAP
· CAP versus usual care resulted in higher rates of wound healing (50% vs. 25%, p = 0.03) and less DLI-related hospital readmissions (19.0% vs. 54.5%, p < 0.001).
· 100% freedom from infection at 30 days in treated patients vs. lower rates in control groups
· Sustained benefit observed at 6 months (92% vs. 69%), highlighting longer-term infection control
· Positive trends in patient survival outcomes, supporting the broader clinical value of infection prevention strategies
These findings are particularly important given that LVAD infections are associated with significantly increased morbidity and mortality, and remain a key limitation in long-term device success.
This publication reinforces the growing body of evidence supporting the SteriPlas as a safe, effective, and innovative approach to managing complex infections—especially in high-risk, device-related scenarios.
